11 Memes to Describe How Millennials Feel About the Home Buying Process

Posted by Tim Weisheyer on May 24, 2016 1:44:13 PM

As a Realtor® today, there is one thing we've noticed when it comes to helping millennials navigate the first-time-home-buying process... Emotions.

Emotions and feelings play a big role in the this decision, and rightly so. Deciding you're ready to buy your first home is a big deal, especially if you're young!

We asked a previous millennial home buyer their thoughts on the whole process and this is what they had to say:

The moment we realized we were ready to start looking for our first home had us feeling a little like Kevin from Home Alone. We were all sorts of excited to learn we were finally "on our own".

So then we turned to our favorite real estate websites and were faced with ALL the possibilities when it came to finding our "dream home". Before we knew it, the list we made for our REALTOR® of all the homes we wanted to see was a mile long.

Then, when we met with our REALTOR®, he shared with us a few realities that come with buying a first home; like all of the documents we needed to find in order to get approved for our loan...

...and the fact that we probably couldn't afford EVERYTHING on our "dream home" wish list. But in the end it was okay because it left us with a few less homes to see.

And really, after walking through the 47 homes that were still on our list, we were feeling a little run down and hopeless that we'd ever find "the one".

Until the moment we really did find "the one"!

Then had to come up with an offer. Luckily our REALTOR® had quite a bit of experience in this and was able to help us figure out the perfect price for our budget and for getting this home.

And then the really hard part came. The waiting game...

...and the dreaming game. Waiting for sellers to get back to you is not as fun as you might think. It involves a lot of nail-biting and texting our REALTOR® messages like, "Just checking in...", and "...have you heard anything yet?"

Then our REALTOR® called us with the counter offer and all we could do was laugh. "They think their home is worth how much?!" Again, lucky for us, our REALTOR® is pretty well-versed in handling situations like this and was able to negotiate on our behalf

Because in the end... It all worked out and our offer was ACCEPTED!

At Dream Builders Realty, we are honored to help anyone who is looking to buy a home, but helping a first time homebuyer is an experience we always get excited about. While there may be a lot of emotions involved, as shared above, it's our pleasure to make sure our customers are as prepared and educated as possible when it comes to the home buying experience.
