Why You Need to Prepare Now for a Summer Move

Posted by Tim Weisheyer on May 3, 2021 8:09:51 PM

Did you know that nearly half of all moves take place between May and Labor Day? With 40 million Americans moving each and every year, that means nearly 20 million people will be moving into new homes in just a matter of a few months.

While you may think you have plenty of time to prepare for the sale of your home for a summer move, time is running out.

Like many others, you realize what an ideal time summer is to make a move due to the fact it may be less disruptive for your kids or an easy time to take some of that built-up vacation leave you have stored away to use towards your move. The warm, sunny weather also makes for ideal moving conditions.

So, what else should you be considering right now to prepare for this summer move?

First, if you haven’t done so already, you will want to work with your Realtor® to obtain a pre-approval for your next home loan and ask your Realtor® to set up a custom home search for your ideal location, or if you know exactly where you want to be even within a specific neighborhood. Trust me, now is the time to start this process.

Next, contact your Realtor® to discuss listing your current home for sale. They’ll need to do a walkthrough of your home, recommend any quick home improvements or renovations, schedule photographs to be taken, and more. The key here is working to ensure you get the most money, in the shortest amount of time and with the least amount of problems. Remember, EXPERIENCE does matter!

Let me give you a quick pro tip. Last year, I sold my home and prior to even having our home listed we started the moving process. When you’ve lived in your home for years, thinking about packing everything up can be a little daunting. I knew if we started early and went room-by-room, we’d be able to chip away at this task in a much more manageable manner. We took our time to downsize, donate, and pack the remaining items we planned to bring with us to our new home, which made our actual move once our home was sold so easy. I encourage you to take this approach, too!

You’ve probably heard this already but... It’s a seller’s market. Interest rates are low, which means buying a home right now is very appealing for many people. In addition, you have likely heard that home inventory levels are very low, the number of active listings across Central Florida decreased by more than 50% from this time last year. Although both of these are true, you will want to bear in mind there are still many challenges in the marketplace. Having a trusted advisor by your side to help you navigate each step and avoid problems along the way is maybe even more important now than ever before.

I hope you have found this information valuable and I want you to know, if you're considering a summer move, it would be my honor to come alongside you and support you in the process and bring my years of experience and expertise to you to ensure you get top dollar for your home.
