At Dream Builders Realty, we know the importance of taking an active role in the community we serve. One way we do this is through the support of local education. Our series on school features shows exactly what this area has to offer when it comes to education.
This week we are featuring a local school that may be somewhat new to many of you.
Avant Garde Academy is a tuition-free public charter school located in the Osceola County School District. What is a Charter School?
- Charter Schools are district sponsored but independently operated.
- Charter Schools are state funded, which means they are tuition free!
- Charter Schools are held to the same accountability standards as traditional public schools.
Avant Garde Academy is located on Pleasant Hill Road in Kissimmee and first opened during the 2015-2016 school year.
Here's the school's mission statement:
"Avant Garde Academy's mission is to provide a creative, student-centered learning environment, that incorporates the latest technology in the classroom in order to prepare our students with the necessary skills to excel in the 21st century."
The school has an educational focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Education. They also believe in project based learning, where the lessons are open-ended and involve critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and communication.
At Avant Garde Academy, students can participate in a variety of other programs such as after-school sports, book club, yearbook, dance and cheerleading, and more.
