5 Reasons Why You Should Live Ten Minutes or Less From Where You Work

Posted by Tim Weisheyer on Dec 7, 2016 2:38:32 AM

Who doesn't want to live, work, and play all in one place?

With only so many hours in a day, and so many tasks to accomplish, there are many benefits that come with this concept, and we're sharing five reasons why you should live ten minutes or less from where you work along with one of our favorite new communities that makes this possible.

Cut down on commute time.

Not only will you drastically cut down on commute time if you live just ten minutes (or less) from work, but you'll add valuable time to your day—time that can be spent in many different ways. You could add the hours on to your work day, allowing you to get more work done than before. Or, you could add the hours on to your personal life, allowing you to spend more time with family, friends, or on hobbies.

Save money.

Just think about it – you will save money on gas, tolls, food, and other car expenses when you live closer to where you work. Gas and tolls can attribute to a pretty hefty part of your monthly budget when you commute a long distance to work (especially when you factor in a round-trip drive, five days a week). And as far as food is concerned, when you live close to home, you can sometimes have the option of going home for lunch. Or, with all that time you're saving, you might be more apt to pack your lunch.

Improve your health and well-being.

Studies show that driving ten miles or more to work attributes to higher blood sugar and cholesterol levels and can often cause other issues such as stress, back aches, and poor posture. Depending on how close you live to work, you could even walk to work, and the improved health benefits will only multiply when daily walking is added in.

Make an impact on the community around you.

Did you know that personal transportation accounts for 20 percent of all greenhouse gasses? When you cut down on the amount of time you personally spend in the car, driving to and from work, you cut down on the pollution you're emitting into the environment around you, too.

Add flexibility to your schedule.

When you live, work, and play in one central location, you are able to be much more flexible with your schedule. Have a doctors appointment you need to make? It's much easier to fit something like this in when you don't have far to go. Or, maybe your child comes down with something while at school and you have to pick them up unexpectedly. When you work close to where you live (and where your kids attend school), these little issues don't seem quite as emergency-like as they may have once seemed.

One of our favorite new communities to live, work, and play in? Lake Nona! We've talked a lot about "Medical City" before—from the amenities it has to offer to how it was plannedbut focusing on the number of jobs and homes all in one area is something we have yet to truly highlight.

Doing a simple search of job listings in Lake Nona, we found roughly 500 jobs in a five mile radius of Lake Nona. Homes for sale in that same five mile radius? More than 100.

Those numbers don't lie.

Lake Nona is a community where you can live ten minutes or less from where you work and have all the added benefits that come along with it.
