5 Central Florida events you won’t want to miss this October

Posted by Tim Weisheyer on Oct 1, 2014 8:30:00 PM

Fall is here and we are more than ready to get in on some festive fall fun! This time of year seems to be packed full of things to do around Central Florida and with the hopes of cooler weather soon (hey, we can dream!) it makes attending these Central Florida events that much more enjoyable.

First up, KUA and the City of Kissimmee present Movie in the Park this Friday night (you read that right, get this event on your calendar ASAP) featuring The Lego Movie. Free admission, free popcorn, themed activities, trivia contests, prize giveaways and a game theater make this the perfect "family night out". It's being hosted at the Kissimmee Lakefront, with recommendations to bring lawn chairs or a blanket. The fun starts at 6 p.m. and the movie starts at 7 p.m. Who knows, you might even see me there!

For all those basketball fans out there (any loyal Orlando Magic fans?!), the preseason starts on October 7th as the Magic take on the Miami Heat but the season kicks off in Orlando against the Rio De Janeiro Flamengo on October 15th. The preseason runs through the end of the month when the real season starts on October 28th. If you haven't had a chance to visit the new (can we still call it new after four years?) Amway Center, using a basketball game as an excuse to see this great facility might be called for. Heck, you can top it off with some concession food and maybe a beverage of choice to make it the perfect evening out.

Next, we have the Kissimmee Fright Nights. If you want to do the Halloween Horror Nights kind of thing, but don't want to shell out the money for the big event, this haunted mansion that is usually the Berlinsky Community House is a great alternative. The historical home hosts spirits who frighten visitors with their spooky appearances and tales of how there used to only be three TV channels. We must warn, this event is intended for mature audiences only and is not recommended for small children (maybe make it a date night?!). It will run October 17, 18, 24, or 25 from 8 p.m. until the last person enters those haunted doors.

For those of you with kids (who definitely don't need to be frightened at the local haunted house) you can treat them to Kissimmee's Trick-or-Treat on Broadway on Friday, October 24th from 5-10 p.m. This event lets families visit the shops up and down Broadway as the kids trick-or-treat in a safe environment all while showing off their cute (and sometimes scary) costumes. Trick-or-treating will take place from 5-8 p.m. with a movie in Toho Square ending the evening from 8-10 p.m.

Finally, being as we are the "tourist capital of the world" (okay, that might be a title we've given to Central Florida but it does have a nice ring to it) you could always visit one of the many theme parks, each boasting their own Halloween themed fun through October.
