As we continue through the peak of summer, temperatures are heating up in Florida and finding something fun to do can be difficult when your main goal might be simply to keep cool. We know August can be busy for many, as kids (and teachers) head back to school but if you are looking for something to do on your days off, we've got a few events in Central Florida worth sharing.
Osceola Women's Show: Head 2 Toe
The third annual Osceola Woman’s Show, Head 2 Toe, returns to Osceola Heritage Park’s Exhibition Building Saturday, August 9th from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm and is hosted by Osceola Women's Newspaper. Consider it a "ladies day out" where you can relish in a day of shopping, exclusive show specials and fun educational topics from professionals in Osceola County.
OWN's mission is to make this an annual woman's show for Osceola County that women can look forward to attending with their friends and family each year. With over 200 hundred booths, the chance to meet exhibitors one-on-one and various stage presentations, there is sure to be something for everyone! Grab your best girlfriends, your sister or your mom and plan to make a day of it!
O'Town Mac Down
Sponsored by SeaWorld and Give Kids The World this face off of an all-American favorite invites the general public to come sample the cheesiest mac-n-cheese in town. The competition is open to everyone, from professional cooks to home cooks. Prizes will be awarded, including the best prize—bragging rights to the best mac-n-cheese in Orlando.
Besides the food competition, there will be a variety of live entertainment, celebrity chef cooking demonstrations, a super fun kid zone, character meet & greets and more. The O'Town Mac Down will take place Saturday, August 23rd from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Orange County Convention Center. It costs $10 for adults and $5 for children (which includes all the mac-n-cheese you can eat) with attendance and participation costs benefiting Give Kids The World Village, a 70-acre, nonprofit resort in Central Florida that provides weeklong, cost-free vacations to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
9th Annual Central Florida Film Festival
Started in 2005, the Central Florida Film Festival was created to provide screenings, seminars and workshops with the goal to make those attending film makers better at what they do while creating a national awareness of the production resources available around Central Florida.
This year there are over 80 short films, feature films and documentaries included in the festival along with a number of guest speakers, panel talks, question and answer sessions and more. The festival is happening Labor Day weekend, August 29th-31st, at the newly renovated West Orange Cinema in Ocoee. Grab your popcorn and Twizzlers and settle in for a weekend of movie watching!
