The first month of 2016 is over and we are heading into February (already!?). This means we have 3 Central Florida events for you to check out, a few of which allow you to enjoy the practically perfect weather we've been having here lately. We're pretty sure our friends and family in the north are jealous anytime they take a look at pictures shared on Facebook or Instagram by us Floridians. But these events (and our weather) are just another reason why Florida is one of the best places to call home.
Watch Jurassic World at the new Kissimmee Lakefront Park
Kissimmee Utility Authority and the City of Kissimmee partner together on the first Friday of every month to host a Movie in the Park extravaganza that features free admission, popcorn, a kid's inflatable zone, trivia contests, prize giveaways and the showing of a different movie on a massive 14-foot LED screen for the community. This month, they have chosen the hit film Jurassic World. The activities will begin at 6 pm on Friday, February 6th with the movie starting at 7 pm. They suggest you bring blankets, lawn chairs and a picnic dinner (oh, and of course, your favorite people to spend the evening with)!
41st Annual Mount Dora Arts Festival
This fine arts festival is perfect for all art lovers, casual festival-goers, and families alike. Especially with the weather we've been having lately, it's the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy all things beautiful. The festival will run February 6th and 7th from 10 am to 5 pm.
Downtown Mount Dora is a quaint town less than an hour outside of Downtown Orlando. It sits on the scenic Lake Dora and offers an abundance of rich Florida history in its shops and other area attractions. In addition to the endless rows of art and local merchants open for business, the festival will feature local and regional musical entertainment at their main stage in Donnelly Park. Festival food will be sold in separate food courts and the local downtown restaurants will offer a wide variety of things to eat. For more information, click here.
Dust off your cowboy boots for the 136th Silver Spurs Rodeo
If you live in Osceola County, or the surrounding area, this event may be of no surprise to you. Taking place twice a year since 1944, rodeo weekend is one the whole county gets involved in (including the schools with kids getting Rodeo Day off in lieu of Presidents Day every February). The Silver Spurs Rodeo is the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi and is annually ranked among the top 50 events sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). While here you can catch bull riding, barrel racing and team roping (just to name a few of the most anticipated events) and don't forget about the annual Osceola County Fair and Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show that runs alongside the rodeo events. The fun begins Saturday February 13th and continues the weekend of February 19th through the 21st.
