You've decided you are ready to live the American dream and buy your first home. The only problem is, you aren't quite sure where to start or what to do as a first-time home buyer. Here's a list of four people you should contact when you are looking to buy a house for the first time.

A REALTOR®

Finding a good REALTOR® (we know where you can find one of those, just saying!) is key when deciding to purchase your first home. He or she will be able to provide you with a wealth of knowledge like understanding local market trends, negotiating offers, navigating all the paperwork and who to contact in your journey toward your first home. Specifically, look for a REALTOR® that has been recognized nationally as an Accredited Buyer's Representative (ABR). The ABR® designation is the benchmark of excellence in buyer representation. This coveted designation demonstrates to consumers a REALTOR® commitment to providing outstanding service for real estate buyers.

A Mortgage Company

This is who you need to call to find out just how much you can afford to spend on your new home. They will match you with a lender to obtain the best interest rate and terms, working the ins and outs to get you into your first home.

A Home Inspector

Buying a home is quite possibly the biggest investment you will make in your lifetime. Having a good home inspector will ensure you are making the right decision when choosing your new home. The Home Inspector will prevent you from buying a home that might have repairs that could make your first home buying experience less than thrilling.

An Insurance Company

Securing homeowner's insurance is a must before closing on your new home. Calling around for the best deal is key when choosing your insurance company but make sure you look into the company's credentials, read reviews and ask your friends who they use as a good referral.
